Postcard Collage Challenge

My friend, Roc, and I started an 8-week postcard collage challenge on mailartworld. Essentially I provide the players with a surprise sheet of (partly crazy) images late Friday night via email; they have until the following Thursday to make a postcard using at least half of the images. Then on Friday, they must trade their card with another player.
Here are my cards from week 1 and 2.

a woman's work....

here's another mixed media collage i did on canvas for the upcoming art show. it's not so dark in real life; i always have issues when have to use the camera instead of the scanner.

arches

this is the end of a 3-month swap between 4 people. my august arches are acrylic, collage image, gesso, rubberstamping, and glitter topcoat.

Saturday afternoon

Gosh, I've been so busy. I'm behind on uploading art (among many other things).
Here's some postcardsI made this week:

Purple Rain

I just finished this piece for the upcoming art show. We have had an incredibly rainy summer, so I'm sure locals will appreciate the sentiment of this work. It's mixed media on an 8x10 canvas that I intend to mat and frame.
I put the raven in because we have a ton of them here. Just trying to enhance the local flavor!

My First Face

Actually, not only is it my first face, it is also my first acrylic painting. Even tho' I had some hurdles, I still entirely enjoyed the process and can't wait to do more!
So here she is. It's an 8"x8" stretched canvas. I call it "With Willing Feet."

Big News! Art Show!

Whoo Hoo! I just received a call from Anj, the owner of a local venue called The Creating Place. Juneau is filled with art galleries, and Sept through April the local Arts + Humanities Council, in conjunction with gallery owners, puts on an event called "First Friday." The gallery owners, among a few other venues, feature local artists in their store for that month, and on the first Friday of that month, there is like a gallery walk/meet-and-greet the artists sort of thing, including press from the local newspapers, etc. All to say is Anj wants me for First Friday--Sept 5th! This will be my first show; I'm so excited!!! But I am going to be busy, busy, busy between now and then!

PS--just had to pull everything out of my online (etsy) store for the time being; I need as much as possible for the show.

PPS--and i get to keep my art there for a month!

the next challenge

Here's the next postcard I made for the weekly collage challenge on flickr that I mentioned in my last post:

and speaking of challenges, i just launched a weekly postcard collage challenge (in collaboration with roc) at mailartworld. would love to have you join!

Seeing Stars

This postcard was created as a result of a weekly challenge I'm taking part in on flickr (see my online gallery link at right). In this challenge we are provided with a sheet of images; we then have 5 days to create art using as many of the images as possible. I was able to use all the images provided--all on a 4x6 postcard. I think I may have created the smallest piece of art last week, which was the first week. Here it is!

er....yep, more postcards

why so many postcards? well they're a great size to work on, and they are fun to exchange. i do have some other things in the works, but they are canvases and they take a lot longer to complete. so until they're ready to show, here are some more postcards!

It's Sunday--so you know it's postcard day!

This week's theme is bicycles for the Sunday Postcard Art Challenge.

Beautiful Woman

This is a 10x12 stretched canvas that I worked on almost all day yesterday. I'll be putting it up for sale in my online store at etsy, as well as on ebay, in a couple of days. It's a 10x12" stretched canvas (no need for framing; ready to hang!) featuring acrylics, paper layering, collage elements (found images, collage sheet images, reproduced vintage ephemera, etc), India ink, paint pens, water soluable pencils, etc.

You guessed it: more postcards!

Here are a few postcards I made this week. I'm going in a lot of directions: I have partially completed canvases all over my garage, my art desk is covered in paper.... But it's all so fun!

Work in Progress continued

I'm struggling a bit with the shading/highlighting. Any suggestions/advice?
Also, her chin ended up a bit pointy. Any ideas on how to correct that?
