...from Redding, California. Yep, we've moved. It was quick. It has been busy, but fun. We were finally able to start moving into our new townhouse on Thurs afternoon. We've been shopping like crazy; today we'll be picking up a lot of furniture. The Sears guys were here early, and the washer and dryer are ready to go.

at this moment i have 5 art journals going. i love working in them so much. i haven't been great at getting around to scanning + uploading all the pages, but here are a few.
the '3 wishes' page is for my 'all about me' journal, + the page was inspired by a prompt from my good friend, roc.
the other 2 pages are from my 'book of the divine' journal--a place where i journal favorite bible verses and related sayings.

at the moment i have several art journals in the works...something i've always wanted to do. here's a collaged page i made in my 9x9 journal using images from nancy baumiller's weekly collage play with crowabout challenge, as well as a 5x7ish mixed-media cover i made for another journal, "whispers of the heart," inspired by kelly rae roberts' book, taking flight.

...i thought i'd share a few journal pages. 2 are from pam carriker's workshop at strathmoreartist.com. check them out: at the moment there are 3 free workshops that are ongoing, meaning you can jump in at any time and work at your own pace. i believe they'll be available til august.
the other page (genuine standard) is based on crowabout's weekly collage play challenge wherein you develop a piece of art using supplied images.

i'm really getting into art journaling...something i've wanted to do for quite some time. i have 3 journals going. i think one of the things i really enjoy is that you can keep going back to pages and adding more stuff. in a way, they're never done unless you want them to be.

these are all pages in my 9x9 journal. i have a lot more pages started. can't wait to see how they all develop. :)

I just haven't been able to carve out a lot of art time lately, but I'm diligently trying to restructure my life so that it can become a part of my every day. But I did get these 2 journal pages done this month.
I wasn't happy with the quality of the paper in my previous journal, so I started over. So I re-did my blue page (what color makes you happy?) and i also did the feb page for my good friend roc's monthly challenge/prompt: what do you love?

A couple of months ago I was helping a friend redecorate her bedroom. Based on the cool stuff she had, including awesome bedding in black and tan, we decided to run with something french-themed. That, combined with the fact that she loves birds, gave me the idea to create this piece of art for her + her husband for Christmas. It's a 14x16 canvas done in acrylics. It doesn't show up too well in the photo, but there is some work on the background: I wrote the words "j'adore" and "ami" in zinc white. And I stamped on some fleur-dis-lys in titan buff--which is just a hair darker than the background. I then outlined the fleur-dis-lys with white caran d'arche. Excuse my french spelling, by the way!

my baby boy (left), david, 20, left this morning. he's moving to montana to continue his education at montana state university. i'll miss him soooo much. but i'm happy for him, too. he's making the trip with his best friend, john, who's been attending MSU for a couple of years now. the plan is filmmaking. it's something they've wanted to do for a while now.
they're both artists at heart. john has amazing drawing skills. david's been into acting and improv for several years now.
they're both clever and witty. can't wait to see what they create!

This is my daughter's 2nd summer participating in Perseverance Theatre's STAR program for kids. They get 4-5 weeks, 5-6 hrs per day, of professional theater training. Last year she performed in Annie, Jr. This year she's in The Wizard of Oz. Last night was opening night. As you can see, the plays are performed in an outdoor theater at the University of Alaska Southeast here in Juneau. My daughter is on the right; her face is a bit in the shadows, and she's next to the person wearing glasses.

...since i've blogged. i've been busy enjoying the sunshine and spending time with my daughter now that school's out. but alas, the rains have returned, so i thought i'd share a few things i've worked on here and there. everything has been made for swaps. the 3 atcs are for a geisha themed swap; the art quote postcard is for an art quote pc swap; and the woman in the garden postcard is for a swap that had to contain the phrase "i'm happiest in my garden."

i've hopped onboard the calendar journal bandwagon. here's mine for may. the idea is to journal something every day, but i created this calendar near the end of may + couldn't remember something from every day. my calendar is 9x12 and a better fit for my scanner would be 8.5x11. oh well!

here are 3 mixed-media collage canvases i recently created. they're all hanging on my wall at juneau artists gallery. i had to take photos, so you can't see them as well as you could if i'd been able to scan them.
i created "beneath the stars" because i stumbled across the quote in a book and was inspired by it. i will have prints available at the gallery of this piece soon.
"lime flowers" is a piece i created based on the cover article of the current issue of cloth, paper, scissors magazine. it was too fun, and i plan to make more in other color schemes.
"re-emerging" really speaks to me about the resilience of the human spirit wherein we can go through life's battles (difficulties), but are able to re-emerge, even tho' we may be wounded/bruised/scarred. it's definitely one of my all-time fav pieces i've created.

it was another busy week, but i did manage to get a couple of small things finished. the "house" is a magnet for a "say what?" challenge wherein the phrase "love for her window" had to be used.
the 4x4 chunky page is another one for the moulin rouge inspired swap. on this one i used a transparency, alcohol inks, rubberstamping, and collage elements from Tumble Fish Studio, available at deviantscrap.com (dancing lady [modified] from Froo Froo Elements; face from Snappy Dressers Elements; butterfly from Wild Wings Elements; + text from Random Words Elements.)

Recently I completed 3 new canvases that I'm excited about, but I hung 2 at Juneau Artists Gallery before taking photos of them. I plan to go into the gallery soon and take photos of them. The third I had prints made, so I think I'll scan one of the prints to showcase on my blog. I'm sure a scan of a scan won't produce the best image, but it should serve the purpose!

here's a 2.5x3.5 atc (artist trading card)i made for a royal zetti challenge. i found the text in a vintage book: she lifted her chin with royal dignity. i really like old text and am thinking that it would be fun to find some cool phrases and create art around them. (as a rule, i make the art and then find supportive text--which can be very time-consuming!)
i also made an altered envelope that i love love love. it has alaska mountains in background and the ever-present raven in the forefront. but alas, i can't publish it because i already put my return address on it, and due to identity theft concerns, i think i'm better off being safe than sorry.
so...sorry you can't see it!

Here's a 4x6 postcard I created for a Pink Floyd inspired swap. The man's body and head (both altered) are from Tumble Fish Studio's Snappy Dressers Elements Pack at deviantscrap.com. The pig is from siefert2 at etsy.com. The borders include elements from Teesha Moore, found images, and scrapbook paper. Various paint pens, markers, watercolor crayons + pencils, etc. were used to complete the card.

ok, so our calendar for march was packed. our calendar for april is packed. and even may is starting to fill in. i am so tired of such a busy life. i feel like i'm going in so many directions and that nothing really gets done well....
but as i've said before, i'm thankful for art. it really brings me peace and joy. here are a few things i've made here and there. my art time is usually 4 a.m. because once the day gets going, it's hard to get back to my art desk!

here we have six "inchies" (1"x1") for a beach-themed inchie swap; a 4x4 chunky for a moulin rouge inspired chunky swap; an altered envelope for a tea or coffee themed altered envelope swap; and 3 magnets for a "twinchie" (2"x2")zetti mix-up swap. In this swap the heads, bodies, and legs will all be mixed up and traded. they are fun to make and will make fun magnets.

finally, here are a few photos from the gallery. i have my normal wall space, actually i rent a "half wall," which is 20" wide. and then as the featured artist i get a little extra space. i also have a few bits + pieces throughout the gallery on "community walls," and on various displays.
also, when you are working the gallery, you can put a piece of art on an easel and set it in the lobby, right outside the store door, so there's a photo of that,too.
couldn't fit the wall all in one photo; so it's broken into 3 shots...and the shots aren't appearing here together. so the photos are middle wall, top wall, featured artist spot, bottom wall, easel.

A month or so ago, Teesha Moore made some great videos on how she makes her awesome journals. I'm in a round-robin swap with 7 other people wherein we'll work on pages in each others' journals. Ours are smaller than Teesha's; we made ours 5x6. So we are all responsible for our own front + back covers, as well as the artists' sign-in page (as well as a few other pages). So here are my front + back covers + the sign-in page. (Page 9 with be a JAM page wherein all artists will contribute.)

Juneau Artists Gallery

As some of you, after going through an elaborate 3-step process, I was notified Wednesday night that I was accepted into Juneau Artists Gallery (JAG). It's a juried venue, so of course I was nervous about having my work judged by peers, but it all turned out. I'll be moving my art into the gallery this coming Sunday!

In the meantime, here are a couple of more pages I made for the ongoing nature journal swap I'm in. These are for Karin.

I've been playing around with altered envelopes. I altered one plain white envie; and I made the other envie out of a decorative shopping bag. These are way fun to make! I know there are a few black marks on the white envie, but once I put on an address, they'll be covered up!

Tomorrow is my husband's birthday. We're celebrating tonight: 4 other couples coming to dinner. The menu: Mexican food.

But this is the piece I bought my husband back in July for our anniversary. It was too perfect to pass up. It's a Brian Andreas piece. It's now hanging on a wall. I also have a cool bench that is by Brian Andreas. He's so quirky; I just love his work!
The bench I have is similar in design to this, but it has a different saying on it.

Ok...so I'm a day late. But since it's my first post this year, I'm allowed to say it! I do hope 2010 brings you all great health, peace, and prosperity. and a lot of art time!
Here are a few pieces to kick off the new year. One of the 8x10s was completed before Christmas; the rest were completed between Christmas and New Year's day.

The 2 8x10s are for a journal swap. The Heart is for a zetti heart magnet challenge. I hand-drew the person on the first page. My drawings were based on some teachings Teesha Moore posted on her blog.

Just wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas Eve day! I was so slammed for Christmas this year. It was my most last-minute Christmas effort ever. But somehow, some way, I pulled it all together--and everything is done! Even the house is clean! So I'm off to make some art and just have a relaxing day.

My youngest son was in the newspaper again this morning. The last time was just a few months ago when he organized the local 350 event.
This kid's gonna be a mover and a shaker. He has a real heart for humanity and for trying to make a difference in the world.

this is "99801." the original canvas is 20x24 (i think) and i have giclee prints that are 24x32.

Here are a couple more pieces I made for Gallery Walk. "Crow"--acrylics w/a lot of texture: original canvas 16x20. giclee prints 15x17.
"As A Bird"--mixed media. original canvas 16x20.giclee prints 15x18.
I'll do one final reveal tomorrow. I do have more that will be available at Gallery Walk, but the pieces I'm "revealing" are the feature works.

According to the store owner, the originals of these have both sold, tho' they will remain in the show.

Gallery Walk

Juneau's annual Gallery Walk kicks off Friday, Dec 4th downtown with holiday lights and music, as well as goodies galore.
I'll be at Skeins in the Senate Building, 2nd floor, on South Franklin St. Friday night--come see me! You can see my art there anytime, but I'll only be there Friday night...with a lot of new art.
I can't wait to reveal my canvases, but right now the guy who makes my giclee prints has my portable hard drive with the images on it, so here's something else that will be available in 8x10 or 11x16 prints. This started out as a postcard, which you've seen, but it looks way cool larger!
I'll be "revealing" some of my Gallery Walk pieces all week, so be sure to stop back!

our computer got infected with several nasty viruses, which gave me a lot of art time. i'll try to get it posted over the next few days.
in the meantime, we did lose all of our email addresses, so if i had yours, i don't anymore, and i want it back again! so pretty please send me an email so i can rebuild my contact file. thanks!

ok, that title popped in my head because of paul mccartney's song, "with a little love you can..."

this weekend i was able to make progress on my current canvas that i'm preparing as one of my pieces for juneau's annual gallery walk in december, make a 2-sided 5x7 nature journal page, start a numbers journal page, and finish up some swaps. in other words, finally, after 3 hectic weeks, i scored some art time! the best thing about it is how it makes me feel: calm, serene, happy!

Did you hear about 350, the global event that took place Saturday? My youngest son, David Moriarty, organized the Juneau action. Here's a newspaper article published in this morning's paper. He's quoted throughout. I'm so proud of him!
He has better photos, taken by Shadow Hotch. Her photos will be the ones submitted to the global headquarters.

can't keep up

i know i haven't blogged. nor have i made art. i've been so busy that i'm behind on my blog, my art, my housework, my paperwork, my life.
this weekend i read (most of) a book about reversing diabetes. so i'm about to embark on the plan: no animal products. no vegetable fats (nuts, avacados, oils). i hope i can do it. i really need my health/life/energy back.
i've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. i just can't keep up. speaking of chickens, here are a couple that just might be about to become famous.
ok, i gotta get dressed, throw on makeup, get my daughter up, take her to school, go grocery shopping, come home + put the goods away, straighten the house, go pick up some prints and look at some proofs, get gas into my rig, meet a friend for lunch, come home and try to get something done, go pick up my daughter. come home and crash. then watch oprah. (yesterday's show was so fun!) then make dinner. then if i'm not too tired, make art til DWTS comes on at 8. if i am too tired, i'll just watch something on HGTV and read. then i'll watch DWTS and chopped. and then bed.
