At Journal pages 2 and 3

I don't know how people do an art journal page a day. Here are my next 2 pages, completed this morning. The first page was completed on Sep. 16. So it took 12 days to get the next pages done.

Art Journal page 1

Since I started playing with art about 1.5 years ago, I've always wanted to create an art journal. I'm just at the point wherein I really need to create some things just for me. So here's page 1.

The Return of the Postcards

Bear in the Backyard

Several days this week we have had a bear in our backyard. It's just a baby, and it's pretty skittish. But even so, you never know how one will react when frightened or startled, so my daughter cannot play outside. This bear can rapidly climb trees and skedaddle over our almost 5' tall fence as tho' it is nothing. These photos were taken yesterday as it was feasting on our raspberries.

rest of the art show photos

i couldn't fit all the photos into one blog post, so here are the rest:

back to the art show

here are the pictures i took of the art show set-up at The Creating Place, just a few minutes before the show started. Anji, Amy, and Jenyfer were all so helpful and encouraging; I just want to say thanks again to them. Anyway, the space I was given was quite generous. I thought I was only getting a bit of a wall + a table, but instead I got this little open room to the right of the store's entrance. Too bad I didn't have more stuff to fill that space :)

Life is....

Here are my four "Life is" mixed-media collages that I put in the art show. One sold the first night; I don't know if more have sold yet.

david update--probably the finale

whoo hoo! david's home. but he's worn out and in pain. but he's home :) i'm a happy mom!

David update 3

Well when I arrived at the hospital this morning I was met with the sight of David walking down the hall--with the help of a PT and crutches. He thinks it means he's good to go, but I did find out he only walked down 3 doors and back, and that earlier he had to have help to take a shower. However, this morning the PT will take him up and down stairs and then he will be released.
I hope I can convince him to stay home another day or two before he heads back to classes at the university, but I know he's chomping at the bit to get back to his friends there :)

David update 2

I spent time with David last night. He's 18 and antsy. Today they will have him put some weight on his leg. He has in his head that he's going to doing everything faster and better than the doctors expect; we're trying to warn him to not do too much too soon. But like I said, he's 18 and antsy....
I will go see him again this morning.

David's fall--update 1

David came thru the surgery just fine, as we all figured he would: he's young; he's healthy.
I just came back from visiting him.
Now I' m rearranging the furniture in his room. He has slept on a Japanese sleeping mat for years, but he's going to have to use a bed for a while. Fortunately some friends had one that we can borrow.
I'm exhausted. It's been a crazy weekend: art show, nathan's concert, naomi sick, david's fall....

David's fall

My youngest son, David (18), was heading down one of Juneau's rocky cliffs last night, carrying a case of bottled water down to the beach where he and a group of his new college friends were planning a bonfire and cookout. David slipped, slid, and fell onto a rock and then somersaulted off of that. This occurred 35 miles out of town. It took a long time for everyone (rescue personnel) to get there: to get him out and back into town/the hospital took the police dept, the fire dept, EMTs, ambulance driver, and the Juneau Rope Rescue team. He had to be put on one of those cage-stretcher thingys and then roped up the cliff. And then they had to drive real slow back to town because they weren't sure if he had head injuries or not. Thank goodness, he does not. He did break his right femur, and at this moment he is in surgery gettting a titanium rod put in the bone.
His friends were troopers. Between all of them we managed to salvage his shoes, belt, billfold, ipod, cell phone, backpack, laptop, and glasses! They also made quite a drive to bring David's car home and then drove further to bring me the keys while I was at the hospital.
I was at the hospital with David from 930 last night til 230 am, and then I was back there by 830 this am before his surgery; I will return again at 1 pm--by then he should be back in his room.
No drinking etc involved for those who wonder. All they had was water, root beer, the makings for smores, chips, and hotdogs!
Anyway, appreciate prayers and understanding if I can't be online much.
Hugs,
Cathy

Art Show

The deadline is looming for my art show Friday, Sept. 5. I'm busy, busy, busy! Here's a profile and interview that I did for The Creating Place, the venue for my show.
