Homeward Bound

Today's my last day in New Mexico. Tomorrow I'll be traveling all day (ugh!). But I can't wait to be home and once again be more connected with all my 'net buddies. I feel very remote at the moment!
Stay tuned!

Still in New Mexico

I'm having a difficult time using my mom's computer, so I haven't posted much. I'll be home by Tuesday. Then I can catch up on your blogs, and maybe post some pictures. For now, all I can say is it's hot, hot, hot! High 90s everyday...!

Greetings from New Mexico

Great to see my daughter after 3.5 weeks--also wonderful to see my family. Spending most of the time poolside. Great friend, Dusty, who used to live in Juneau + now lives in Oklahoma arrived last night. Let the good times roll!

Quench my Thirsty Soul

This is my 3rd layering venture, tho' in this instance it is only the background that consists of many layers. The girl is an image I purchased from Karyn Gartel. I've also taken many wonderful online workshops with Karyn.

This is a 16x20 canvas that will be for sale downtown Juneau at Skeins. I may have prints available in the future.

Hope...

...is on the Horizon. This 12x16 canvas is my 2nd venture into layering. This is going to be up for sale downtown Juneau at Skeins. I may have prints available in the future.

The reproduced + resized image is from Terri at Pringle Hills Studios.

A Day At the Beach is a Good Day

The title is the underlying text of this 16x20 canvas, wherein I started experimenting with a layering technique, which I absolutely love. I need to get braver and do more layers, but I'm excited that I am at last venturing into it. It's something I've wanted to try for a long time.
The very top lettering says: I grew up on Cape Cod and learned to swim in the ocean when I was three. To me, there is nothing better than a summer day on the beach. I love the soothing sound of the surf, the sea's salty taste on my lips, & the warm sand berneath my feet. The sights and sounds of the beach make me feel like a child again--free and full of possibility.
Of all the pieces I've created so far, this is the one I'd be most apt to hang onto. But I'm putting it up for sale downtown. I won't have any prints available on this one.

journal pages

This is the front + back of a journal page I made for an art friend. The pages are 8x10 + feature images from Teesha Moore.

Friday

Here's a birdhouse I made for a monthly challenge. It's about 8x10.

I have a bunch of errands to run today, so of course it's looking like rain outside. I only have 4 more days at home and then early, very early, on the 5th day I'm on my way to the airport. Can't wait to see my daughter. I miss her so much. But she's having a blast at my parent's house, especially in their pool. She pretty much lives in the pool.

Botanica

The sun returned yesterday--hurrah!
I have a ton of stuff to do before leaving town next week. For the next 5 days I'll need to be very focused. Wish me luck with that!

Here's a postcard I made for a challenge with the theme "botanica."

Cloudy Tuesday

Our sun went away yesterday; so sad. Good thing I'm getting out of town soon! In one week I'll join my daughter who is at my parents' place in New Mexico. Can't wait!

Here are a couple of postcards I made. One is for a fairy enchanted theme; the other theme is "up, up, and away."

Sunny Sunday

Yep, the sun is still shining in this rainforest; and we are still thrilled! Some more bright spots: my honey's home after being gone 2 weeks + today I get to spend the day with a long-time friend from Fairbanks who is traveling around southeast Alaska with the Sweet Adelines. I used to sing with them back in 1985.

Here are some more postcards: E, F, G. I'm frantically trying to get all my art obligations done before I head out of town next week.

Dos this hat make my face look fat?

Ok, how many times have we heard, or said this? Maybe not exactly "does this hat make my face look fat?" but for sure we've wondered about something similiar. I needed to do a postcard featuring a hat, so this is what I came up with.
(and yep, the sun's still shining!)

Happiness is...

...creating! That's the title of this postcard I created for a "happiness is..." postcard challenge. I used images from Teesha Moore comined with an outfit I found in a magazine, which I "decorated" a bit.
Happiness is also sunshine, which continues to pour out on us lucky ducks who live in a rainforest. We're so happy! It was 86 on my back deck today...86! That's almost unheard of for us. And my thermometer is in the shade.
I'm creating art on my back deck. I have to lug everything out in the morning and back in at night. But that's ok. Except I'm supposed to be spring cleaning, but really? In this weather? I'll have to save that task for a rainy day!

Another Sunny Day

So far, May, and now June, has brought pretty good weather to Juneau, and it's been such a relief after a long winter and a fairly soggy summer last year. So the plan was to spring clean while my family is away. I've done a bit, but it's hard to stay inside while the sun is shining. So mostly I've been taking my art outside and creating on my back deck. My dining room is full of art clutter, because I bring everything in at night, and then take it back out the next morning. I have 3 canvases in the works, plus I've created some background pages for an alphabetica swap I'm in. Ok, I didn't like the background on one of the canvases, so last night I gave up my attempts to fix it, and just covered it with a layer of gesso--it's start-over time on that one!
I like to have art to share when I post; right now I have 2 completed canvases at the printers so they can be scanned.
Why all the canvases? Because they're selling like crazy! Yahoo! The venue downtown that carries my art only has 4 canvases of mine left--and it's fairly early in the tourist season. It's all so exciting!
Hope you have a sunny day!
