christmas eve day

Just wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas Eve day! I was so slammed for Christmas this year. It was my most last-minute Christmas effort ever. But somehow, some way, I pulled it all together--and everything is done! Even the house is clean! So I'm off to make some art and just have a relaxing day.
Hope all of you have a nice smooth day!

a little art

i've been insanely busy, and i'm so behind on Christmas that I don't even want to think about it. So there's been virtually no art time. But I did get this front + back journal page made for an artist friend. It's a 5x7 nature-themed swap:

PBJ

My youngest son was in the newspaper again this morning. The last time was just a few months ago when he organized the local 350 event.
This kid's gonna be a mover and a shaker. He has a real heart for humanity and for trying to make a difference in the world.

here are a few random photos from gallery walk on friday night. we took the pix before the walk kicked off.

dreamer

here's a 4.5x6.5 mixed media piece for a dreamer swap. i need to look it up, but i think john lennon is the one who wrote "imagine," which is where the text is from.

final sneak peek

here's the last piece i'm going to reveal for gallery walk. hope to see all the juneau-ites at skeins tonight. i'll be there from 4 pm on.
this is "99801." the original canvas is 20x24 (i think) and i have giclee prints that are 24x32.

Two More Reveals

Here are a couple more pieces I made for Gallery Walk. "Crow"--acrylics w/a lot of texture: original canvas 16x20. giclee prints 15x17.
"As A Bird"--mixed media. original canvas 16x20.giclee prints 15x18.
I'll do one final reveal tomorrow. I do have more that will be available at Gallery Walk, but the pieces I'm "revealing" are the feature works.

According to the store owner, the originals of these have both sold, tho' they will remain in the show.

Gallery Walk

Juneau's annual Gallery Walk kicks off Friday, Dec 4th downtown with holiday lights and music, as well as goodies galore.
I'll be at Skeins in the Senate Building, 2nd floor, on South Franklin St. Friday night--come see me! You can see my art there anytime, but I'll only be there Friday night...with a lot of new art.
I can't wait to reveal my canvases, but right now the guy who makes my giclee prints has my portable hard drive with the images on it, so here's something else that will be available in 8x10 or 11x16 prints. This started out as a postcard, which you've seen, but it looks way cool larger!
I'll be "revealing" some of my Gallery Walk pieces all week, so be sure to stop back!

teesha's tutorials

here are some things i made following teesha moore's tutorials, posted on her blog and on you tube.

2 of the pages are 5x7. the "us" piece is a postcard: u is for us. that's right, we're almost done with the alphabet postcard swap! we're down to 3 players, as depicted on my postcard.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

This is the front and back of a 5x7 journal page I made for a swap that requires each page to contain numbers, texture, and at least 3 colors.

computer down = art up

our computer got infected with several nasty viruses, which gave me a lot of art time. i'll try to get it posted over the next few days.
in the meantime, we did lose all of our email addresses, so if i had yours, i don't anymore, and i want it back again! so pretty please send me an email so i can rebuild my contact file. thanks!
here's a one-eyed zetti (4x6) postcard and a whimsy house ATC (2.5x3.5) made for some monthly challenges.

with a little art you can...

ok, that title popped in my head because of paul mccartney's song, "with a little love you can..."

this weekend i was able to make progress on my current canvas that i'm preparing as one of my pieces for juneau's annual gallery walk in december, make a 2-sided 5x7 nature journal page, start a numbers journal page, and finish up some swaps. in other words, finally, after 3 hectic weeks, i scored some art time! the best thing about it is how it makes me feel: calm, serene, happy!

here's some of the work i mentioned.

350

Did you hear about 350, the global event that took place Saturday? My youngest son, David Moriarty, organized the Juneau action. Here's a newspaper article published in this morning's paper. He's quoted throughout. I'm so proud of him!
He has better photos, taken by Shadow Hotch. Her photos will be the ones submitted to the global headquarters.

can't keep up

i know i haven't blogged. nor have i made art. i've been so busy that i'm behind on my blog, my art, my housework, my paperwork, my life.
this weekend i read (most of) a book about reversing diabetes. so i'm about to embark on the plan: no animal products. no vegetable fats (nuts, avacados, oils). i hope i can do it. i really need my health/life/energy back.
i've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. i just can't keep up. speaking of chickens, here are a couple that just might be about to become famous.
ok, i gotta get dressed, throw on makeup, get my daughter up, take her to school, go grocery shopping, come home + put the goods away, straighten the house, go pick up some prints and look at some proofs, get gas into my rig, meet a friend for lunch, come home and try to get something done, go pick up my daughter. come home and crash. then watch oprah. (yesterday's show was so fun!) then make dinner. then if i'm not too tired, make art til DWTS comes on at 8. if i am too tired, i'll just watch something on HGTV and read. then i'll watch DWTS and chopped. and then bed.

ATCs

Here are a few ATCs (2.5"x3.5" Artist Trading Cards) I made somewhat recently. Two are/were for zentangle challenges. The 4 girls are for a flowers-in-their-hair swap. The flowers are stamped; the remainder of the work is hand-drawn.

CD giveaway

I will give away one of Earthen Vessel's debut CDs, "Arising."
Earthen Vessel is a contemporary Christian band in Juneau, Alaska. My husband is the lead vocalist.
The production for the CD was paid for in advance via donations. All band members donated their time and talents free of charge. The proceeds from the CD sales will go to missions. (I have purchased the CD that I am giving away.)
It took one year to produce this CD, primarily due to difficulty scheduling all the members!
You can hear my husband sing here. This song is not on the CD; it is a song I wrote in 2003.

To enter the giveaway:
1. Leave a comment on this blog post. Make certain that I know how to reach you if you win. (To leave a comment, click on "comments" at the bottom of the post.)
2. Only one entry per person please.
3. Entry deadline is Oct. 2, 2009. On Oct. 3rd I'll select a winner via a random name draw. If I am unable to contact the winner within 48 hours, a new name will be drawn.

Eye-Candy

My youngest son is attending the University of Alaska Southeast and holds a student job with the School of Management. Yesterday he sent me an email that said he works in an office primarily made up of women who consider him charming, and that due to the menial tasks he is assigned, he suspects he was hired merely as eye-candy. And then yesterday one of the women took this photo, which my son says proves his suspicions were correct.

Earthen Vessel

Some of you know that my husband, Nathan, is the lead vocalist for a rock and soul Christian contemporary band called Earthen Vessel. They're about to release their debut CD, Arising, this Saturday night, Sept. 26, at a free concert which will be held at St. Paul's, Juneau, Alaska, 730-9 p.m.
The CD was a year in the making! It's so exciting to have it finally be ready for release.

Order forms.

good intentions....

well my goal for 2009 was to blog everyday, but lately it seems i'm only blogging once a week. life is just too darn busy!

here are a couple of journal pages i made last weekend! "reflections: is for my dear friend, roc. the quote is one i've heard her use a few times. the other is for week 52 of nancy baumiller's crowabout challenge.

i'm getting into giclee prints. this week i picked up a small order of large giclee prints of my bestseller, "she refused to let a little rain get her down." the prints are about 13x19. i had one matted and framed into an 18x24 frame. ooh la la--i love it! i spoke with the owner of the venue that carries my art yesterday, and i think/hope she's going to put this framed print in the streetside window display....

phasing out my prints

I am phasing out my prints. I have a few in my etsy store (click on icon at right). And for some of those, I do have more than one copy. But when they're gone, they're gone, so if there's anything you're interested in, now's the time to snag them.

I am shifting over to giclee prints. They will be larger and printed on heavy archival paper. They cost a lot more to produce, so they they will cost a lot more to buy. I will only be offering a few select pieces of artwork in giclee.

more postcards

here are a couple of postcards i made for challenges. "Live well..." is for a monthly challenge. For Sept. we were asked to include an inspirational quote. The card is mixed-media. I drew the character, added collage elements, + rubberstamped the text.

the other postcard is for this week's challenge at Sunday Postcard Art. The theme is "school." The 3 girls are from a collage sheet I purchased from Donna. I added a few other collage elements plus some vintage text, math problems, etc.

more art

the whimsy goth girl is an ATC (2.5x3.5) for a monthly whimsical challenge; the peacock is an ATC for a monthly bird challenge--this month's theme is peacock; and the haunted house fulfills this week's (week 51) challenge from nancy baumiller (see previous post), plus it is a page for a chunky haunted house swap i'm in. when i have all my house pages done i'll post them together. this is the 2nd page i've done for the swap.

we scored an unexpected bit of nice weather yesterday, so my husband + daughter went camping, which gave me a nice stretch of laundry, housework, and art time.

Crowabout Challenge

For 50 weeks now, Nancy Baumiller has hosted a weekly challenge wherein she provides a sheet of images, and participants are challenged to create a piece of art using at least 3 images from the sheet. A winner is then selected via a random name draw. You can learn more about it on one of Nancy's Blogs: http://somethingtwocrowabout.typepad.com/
I haven't played in a while, but week 50 offered some whopping prizes plus 3 sheets to work with in celebration of 50 weeks of play.
Well, I had mine done in time, but I didn't get it uploaded in time. So I missed out on a chance to win any of the killer prizes. But on the other hand, just getting to use the images is a prize in itself.
Here's my 6x10 journal page I created for week 50.
