Waves of the Sea

I'm participating in a "House Beautiful CAT (create-a-theme)" swap at mailartworld.com. The theme of houses I'm creating is "zetti," an art form developed by Teesha Moore. This is my first house for the swap. It will go to Wanda, who loves the beach and the sea. The house is about 4x6," and is mixed media: paper layering, collage images, rubberstamping, hand-drawn elements, + various emebellishments. The circle under the starfish is pop-dotted on to add dimension.
The quote is by Jill Davis.

Day and Night

I recently completed a mixed media landscape online workshop taught by Karyn Gartel. These canvases are each 12x24". They were made with paper layering (scrapbook paper + vintage text) and acrylics.
For house numbers I used my husband's and my wedding date, 7-25-97, to add a personal touch to the paintings. I call them simply "Day" and "Night."
This was my 2nd workshop with Karyn. She's a great teacher. I am in the middle of two more workshops with her, and I am signed up for another one that I'll start as soon as I finish at least one of the ones I'm in the middle of at the moment.

June Arches

Roc (see link @ right) has a way of roping me into all kinds of commitments. The latest: 4 of us will make an arch a month for each other June - August. So here's my first batch. I haven't decided who gets which one yet.

silverware

A bunch of us at mailartworld are altering silverware, inspired by the most recent issue of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. I have 14 pieces in the works (and more on standby!). Here is the first one I completed. I've altered a vintage silver-plated seafood fork. Often it's hard to get a decent photo or scan of small, non-flat objects, but here it is. The materials/techniques I used: alcohol inks, hemp twine, eyelash fibers, vintage text: "catch a crab," beads, abalone shell bead/charm thingys. When it's hanging up, you can't really see the hemp twine.
I scored a lot of silver-plated forks and spoons at Goodwill on a recent trip to Clovis, New Mexico. I paid 29 cents per piece. On ebay these items are sold as antiques for a higher cost, so I was pleased with my find.

Altered Domino Keychain

This is my first altered domino keychain, made for a swap in a group I belong to at flickr (see my art gallery link at right). The theme was travel, and could be a destination, so I selected Paris. The front is is a collage image featuring the Eiffel Tower, a blue jeweled embellishment, glitter, and diamond glaze, which gives it a shiny and protective coat. The sides have been covered in silver foil tape. The back is alcohol inks and vintage text, "Ou est la Tour Eiffel?" (Where is the Eiffel Tower?), beads, + diamond glaze. I added beads and a postcard charm (slightly altered w/alcohol inks) to the chain. It was a lot of fun to make.

Gaining Ground

Tada--I'm caught up with Roc (link at right)! This is the chunky page (4x4) I made for our June trade; the theme for that month is beach.
